Recognizing Professional Pest Control on World Pest Day

World Pest Day

June 6 is World Pest Day, an annual worldwide observance established to raise awareness among the public, government, and media about the important role of the pest control industry in protecting health, food, property, and the environment from pest health threats. In recognition of the invaluable impact the industry has on our everyday lives and well-being, Thrasher Termite & Pest Control is joining the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) in celebrating pest control professionals everywhere by spreading awareness of the health threats posed by pests.

“Pests have a direct impact on our health,” said Garrett Thrasher. “It’s a little-known fact that mosquitoes are the deadliest animal in the world. Mosquito bites result in the deaths of more than 1 million people throughout the world every year. Rats, mice, cockroaches, and other pests carry many human pathogens. Today, on World Pest Day, we stand with our brothers and sisters in professional pest management that are making a difference across the globe.”

At a time when homeowners are staying in and around their homes more than ever, it is crucial they take the necessary pest-proofing steps to avoid infestations of any kind. With the help of NPMA, Thrasher Termite & Pest Control recommends the following tips to help homeowners and businesses better prepare their property against pest infestations:

  • Eliminate sources of standing water, including birdbaths and clogged gutters, to help reduce biting mosquito populations.
  • Seal any cracks on the outside of the property with a silicone-based caulk, including entry points for utilities and pipes.
  • Replace weather-stripping around windows and repair loose mortar around the foundation.
  • Keep tree branches and shrubbery well-trimmed and away from the property. Overhanging branches can act as highways into the property.
  • Keep the mulch at least 15 inches from the foundation.
  • Keep basements, attics, and crawl spaces well-ventilated and dry.
  • Store garbage in sealed containers and dispose of it regularly.
  • Wipe down kitchen counters to remove crumbs and spills that could attract pests.

What pests are covered in your pest control services?

Thrasher Pest Control provides solutions for a wide range of common pests affecting San Diego’s homes and businesses. Services commonly address ants, cockroaches, spiders, rodents, termites, fleas, and other structural or seasonal pests common to Southern California properties. During an inspection, technicians identify the pest activity affecting the property and recommend the most appropriate treatment approach based on the infestation and conditions present.

Response times depend on scheduling availability and the type of service requested. In many cases, technicians are able to schedule service within a short timeframe after a request is received. During the initial contact, the team reviews the pest concern and schedules the earliest available appointment for inspection and treatment.

Preparation requirements vary depending on the type of pest and treatment being performed. For most general pest services, minimal preparation is needed beyond allowing technicians access to key areas of the home and exterior. For specialty services such as bed bug treatments or termite work, the team may provide specific preparation instructions before the scheduled appointment.

Most pest control services begin with a detailed inspection of the property to identify pest activity, entry points, and conditions that may attract pests. After the inspection, technicians apply targeted treatments to affected areas using methods appropriate for the pest involved. Preventive measures such as sealing entry points, removing attractants, and monitoring pest activity are then recommended to help reduce future infestations.

Thrasher Pest Control offers a limited warranty period after the initial treatment. If the target pest is found again in the previously treated area during the warranty period, technicians may return to re-treat the area according to the service agreement. Warranty eligibility depends on the service provided and the property conditions being maintained as recommended by the technician.
